Rouge Ardennais Willow (Salix xfragilis f. Vitellina 'Rouge Ardennais') Cutting
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Rouge Ardennais Willow is an option if you are looking for winter color, and it remains attractive during the summertime as well. We recommend this variety for anyone seeking an accent or a colorful hedge in their garden, as the wood turns color in the winter. The color of the dried wood remains similar to the color of the living wood, making it suitable for harvest and decoration. To maintain the color and characteristics of the first-year wood, we prune it back near the ground every year, which allows new, colorful rods to emerge.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Salix x fragilis 'Rouge Ardennais' (Rouge Ardennais Willow) is a deciduous shrub cultivated for its colorful winter stems. The first-year wood exhibits bright orange and red coloration, providing cold-season landscape interest. It features lanceolate green foliage in the summer. This variety performs well in full sun to partial shade and adapts to moist or wet soils. Regular severe pruning or coppicing in late winter encourages the growth of vibrant new rods annually. Stems can be harvested for basketry and decorative arrangements. Hardiness zones 4-7.
This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions.
