Chermesina Willow (Salix x fragilis f. vitellina 'Chermesina') Cutting
Possesses bright red stems on first year growth. For this reason, it is often pollarded and pruned yearly to maintain its vibrant winter color.
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Chermesina willow provides beautiful year-round interest for us, displaying striking green foliage against red stems in the summer and vibrant color in the winter. As the branches age, the older sections shift to a softer yellow tone. When dried, which takes about six to seven months, this willow successfully maintains much of its original color. To keep the bright coloration, we recommend pruning it back close to the ground every year, as the most distinctive color characteristics appear on the first-year growth. It propagates easily, and new cuttings we planted six months ago are already growing well.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Chermesina Willow is a deciduous tree featuring vivid orange-red bark that provides winter color. It grows to a mature height of 25 feet and a spread of 16 feet. This variety thrives in full sun and moist soils, making it suitable for hedges, windbreaks, and landscape focal points. Hardy to Zone 3.
This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
