Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Fransgeel Rood is a willow variety we recommend if you are looking for winter color or a functional hedge plant. The foliage features green tops with new growth that emerges in a blend of red and green, providing a distinct look along the fringes when pruned. Once harvested and dried for about six months, the wood retains much of its natural color, turning an orangish-red hue suitable for decorative arrangements and basketry.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Fransgeel Rood is a male Dutch willow selection featuring yellow to orange branches that turn red in winter. The hairless stems have a waxy surface, and the summer foliage consists of deep green, broadly lanceolate leaves up to 12 cm long. This fast-growing variety produces rods that grow 5 to 7 feet annually, making it suitable for winter interest, hedges, and basketry.
