Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Rabbit's Foot Willow is mainly a winter willow featuring large, distinct catkins that appear early in the season, typically around January, and begin providing pollen by mid-February to support early insects. We find that the summer foliage is also attractive, with new growth that is tinged red before maturing into lush green leaves. When we plant these, they establish steadily in their first year and become increasingly vigorous in subsequent years as the root system develops.

Salix x leucopithecia Rabbit's Foot is a deciduous shrub or small tree featuring large, silvery-white catkins that emerge in late winter. The summer foliage consists of green leaves with silky, silvery undersides. It grows 6 feet tall if coppiced annually or up to 20 feet if left unpruned, with a spread of 3 to 6 feet. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and moist to wet soil. Hardy in USDA zones 4 to 8, this variety is utilized for floral arrangements, basketry, and living structures.
