Lambertiana Willow (Salix purpurea 'Lambertiana') Basketry Willow Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Lambertiana Willow (Salix purpurea) is a purple willow variety that grows very straight rods, reaching six to eight feet tall. We coppice these plants every year to manage their growth. This particular variety features a lighter color, making it an excellent choice for basketry if you need a lighter contrast in your collection. Like most willows, we find it is easy to propagate from cuttings as long as it receives sufficient water and sun. If you let it grow late in the winter, it will produce tiny pink white catkins.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Salix purpurea Lambertiana, also known as Lambertiana Willow, is a fast-growing deciduous shrub or small tree that can reach up to 5 meters in height. It features slender, flexible lime-green stems that grow straight, producing rods suitable for basketry, weaving, and living structures. The foliage consists of broad, blue-green leaves that offer privacy throughout the growing season. This variety adapts to a range of soil types, including heavy clay, and thrives in moist to wet conditions, making it effective for soil stabilization and streambank restoration. It exhibits resistance to deer and insects, and annual coppicing is recommended to encourage fresh stem growth and maintain form.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
