Ubileen Pear (Pyrus communis 'Ubileen') Scionwood

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Ubileen pear is an early-ripening variety from Bulgaria that ripens in mid-August in our Zone 8A climate in the San Juan Islands, Washington. We thin the fruit early after pollination to encourage larger size, and we prune the tree severely each year to keep the harvest within reach, promoting horizontal rather than vertical growth. The tree shows high disease resistance and produces great looking pears. While the fruit can be eaten when crisp and light, letting it sit allows it to become soft, juicy, and sweet.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Ubileen European Pear is a vigorous, upright-to-spreading deciduous fruit tree reaching a mature height and spread of 12 to 15 feet on semi-dwarf rootstock. Introduced from Bulgaria, it is an early-season variety that ripens fruit in late July to early August. The tree produces large pears with yellow skin and a red blush. The yellow flesh is fine-textured, buttery, sweet, and aromatic. For optimal quality, fruit is harvested firm and ripened off the tree. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 through 8, this variety requires full sun, well-drained soil, and a second European pear variety for cross-pollination. It exhibits resistance to fire blight.

This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
