Stewartstown Willow (Salix daphnoides 'Stewartstown') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Stewartstown Willow features deep red stems that provide a stark contrast against its green foliage in the summer. In our experience, the daphnoides varieties tend to send up one primary leader which is different than other varieties like purpurea or triandra. Similar to Blue Streak and Continental Purple, this variety produces a natural white bloom on its lower branches that protects it from water and remains visible even after the stems have been dried for a long time. In our experience, it grows slightly faster and more prolifically than Blue Streak. We manage our willow bed by using drip tape for irrigation, controlling grass competition with plastic during the initial years, and coppicing the plants annually to encourage fresh growth. It is a fast-growing variety that is easy to propagate from cuttings.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Salix daphnoides Stewartstown Willow is a deciduous shrub or tree characterized by deep red to brown stems and green foliage. It features a distinct white powdery bloom on its branches that provides visual interest. This fast-growing variety thrives with ample water and sunlight, making it suitable for hedges, decorative cuttings, or color accents in the landscape.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success. If you are new to plant propagation, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on How to Propagate...'.
