Stella Cherry (Prunus avium 'Stella') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Stella sweet cherry is a mid-season variety that ripens around the same time as Emperor Francis, Black Gold, Bing, and Van. In our observation, it ripens only a few days before Bing, making the timing very close. The fruit has a deep red exterior and a deep red interior flesh, distinguishing it from light-fleshed varieties like Emperor Francis. Stella functions as a universal pollinator, meaning it will pollinate most other cherry varieties that share a similar bloom period. We find it to be a practical choice for home orchards or plantings that require a reliable pollinator to support other varieties.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Stella Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium 'Stella') is a deciduous fruit tree reaching a mature height of 10 to 15 feet with a similar spread. It produces large, heart-shaped, deep red sweet cherries with firm, dark red flesh that ripens in the mid-season. The tree features a self-pollinating habit and serves as a universal pollinator for other sweet cherry varieties with the same bloom period. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 through 8, this variety performs best in full sun and adapts to a wide range of well-drained soils.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
