Seneca Plum (Prunus domestica 'Seneca') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Seneca Plum is a large European variety that features a pretty bloom on its skin to protect it from rainwater. We find it has a mild taste and is a freestone plum, meaning the seed pops right out. This characteristic makes it easy to slice into halves for dehydrating into prunes, unlike clingstone Asian varieties where the flesh is difficult to separate from the stone. We highly recommend it as an early season plum for eating fresh off the tree, processing, or dehydrating.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Seneca Plum is an upright, vigorous European plum tree reaching a mature height of 10 to 15 feet. It features white spring blossoms followed by large, oval, reddish-purple fruit with sweet, amber-yellow freestone flesh. The fruit ripens in late summer to early fall and is used for fresh eating, canning, and drying. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 4 through 9, this variety performs best in full sun and well-drained soil, and it requires cross-pollination with another European plum variety to produce fruit.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
