Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Rosemary Willow is a unique one in our willow bed. It features slender stems and long, thin leaves that resemble bamboo or Japanese willow. While it resembles rosemary in appearance, it carries no scent and is unrelated to the herb. We have found that this variety grows rapidly from cuttings pushed directly into the soil and supplied with adequate water and sun. It adapts well to drier conditions once established, and its foliage turns yellow in the autumn. Due to its delicate leaves and growth habit, it could function well as a hedge plant or as a candidate for bonsai cultivation.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Rosemary Willow (Salix elaeagnos) is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to central and southern Europe and southwest Asia. This variety features narrow, linear leaves that are dark green on top and silver-white underneath, creating a textured appearance reminiscent of rosemary foliage. It grows 10 to 15 feet tall and wide, though it can be maintained as a smaller shrub through annual coppicing. The plant produces slender green catkins in spring and develops yellow fall foliage and mahogany-colored bark. It thrives in full sun, adapts to average, wet, or dry soil conditions, and is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9.
This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions.
