Persian Mulberry (Morus nigra) Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Morus nigra mulberries are, without doubt, our favorite tasting mulberry. The explosion of flavor you get when you put a handful in your mouth is unforgettable. Persian is one of three Morus nigra mulberries we have on our farm. The other two are Noir de Spain and Black Beauty. Based on our experience and what we have heard from others, all Morus nigra varieties are actually the same genetically. The leaves, growing habit, fruiting timing, fruit characteristics are indistinguishable from one another. We do keep our Morus nigra varieties separate with their original names, but if you have one of these, you probably won't find much difference between the other two. And if one is out of stock, consider the other varieties.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Reliable botanical information for mulberry trees is scarce but in terms of cold hardiness, Persian along with the other Morus nigra mulberries is cold hardy. It survived one 10F winter low we had one year.  It is also one of the last mulberries to wake on our farm which allows it to avoid any late frosts. Morus nigra is relatively slow growing compared to other mulberry varieties like Morus alba and Morus rubra, but it can become a very large tree.  Morus nigra will not root so be prepared to graft it onto an existing tree or compatible rootstock like Morus alba or Morus rubra.

This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
