Kuban Comet Plum (Prunus salicina 'Kuban Comet') Scionwood

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Kuban Comet plum is an Asian variety, originating from Russia, that ripens early in the summer alongside our other varieties like Methley and Obilnaja. We grow this variety in the clay soil of our farm in the San Juan Islands, where the trees do well in our less-than-ideal dry soil conditions. The fruit holds well on the tree even in windy conditions. The plum is juicy with a semi-freestone pit, meaning the stone releases relatively easily but it is not quite as clean-separating as a typical European prune plum. When we have enough, we harvest these early-season plums to bring fresh to the market.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Kuban Comet Plum is a low-vigor, semi-dwarf deciduous tree reaching a mature height of 10 to 12 feet. Developed in Russia, this interspecific hybrid features early spring white blossoms followed by medium to large, oval fruit with reddish-purple skin and juicy, yellow-orange flesh. The fruit is semi-freestone and ripens early in the season, typically from late June to July. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 4 through 9, this productive variety performs best in full sun, adapts to clay soils, and is partially self-fertile.

This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
