Kansas Sweet Cherry (Prunus cerasus 'Kansas Sweet') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
We find that Kansas Sweet offers a unique combination of sweet and tart flavors, making it versatile enough to eat fresh off the tree or to use in pies and preserves. The tree produces bright red, flavorful fruit that ripens about 5 to 10 days before the Bing variety. It is a self-fruitful selection, meaning it does not require a partner to set fruit, though planting near another compatible cherry can improve the overall yield. Our trees grow to a manageable size of 10 to 16 feet, making them well-suited for home orchards.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
The Kansas Sweet Cherry is a hybrid variety resulting from a cross between a sweet cherry and a sour cherry. The tree produces fruit with bright red skin, red juice, and semi-sweet, juicy flesh. It exhibits a vigorous, upright growth habit, typically reaching a mature height of 6 to 12 feet. This variety is partially self-fruitful, though cross-pollination with a compatible cherry variety will increase crop yields. It performs well in USDA hardiness zones 4 through 10, requires approximately 500 to 600 chill hours, and ripens from mid to late June. The fruit is suitable for fresh eating, canning, preserves, and pies.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
