Jonkheer Van Tets Red Currant (Ribes rubrum 'Jonkheer Van Tets') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Jonkheer van Tets Red Currant is a variety we grow that ripens early in the season, ahead of our other red currants. It is a productive, bearing fruit heavily from the bottom to the top of the bush. The berries have a translucent quality, allowing you to see the seeds within each fruit when the sun is behind it. While these red currants are milder in taste than black currants, they are still tart and we find them most suitable for making jam, pies, or crumbles. Although the birds prefer our sweeter mulberries and cherries, we keep our bushes netted to protect the ripening fruit from birds.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Jonkheer Van Tets Red Currant is an upright, vigorous deciduous shrub that reaches a mature height and spread of approximately 1.5 meters. It is an early-cropping variety, producing heavy yields of large, bright red, juicy berries arranged in dense clusters by early July. The translucent fruit is tart in flavor, suitable for jams, jellies, pies, and fresh consumption. This self-fertile variety performs best in full sun to partial shade and adapts to most well-drained, fertile soils, offering resistance to mildew and aphids.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
