Harrisons B Willow (Salix x rubra 'Harrisons' (S.purpurea x S. viminalis)) Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Harrison's Willow is a variety that produces for us not only great basketry willow but also winter decoration. In the summer, it features narrow, thin, deep green leaves that resemble bamboo, making it an attractive plant for hedges or open fields. Freshly harvested rods exhibit a distinct color range with a natural luster that transitions to a matte finish after drying for approximately six months, while still retaining their color. We manage this productive variety by coppicing the trunk base back yearly each winter, which stimulates dense biomass and rod growth the following season. It establishes quickly from new plantings, developing a robust root system over time that supports rapid annual growth.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Harrison's Willow is a productive, fast-growing variety of deciduous shrub used for coarse basketry, living structures, and ornamental landscape planting. Fresh growth features straight, unbranched rods that can reach up to six to eight feet in a single growing season, displaying deep green leaves resembling bamboo and dark green to rich burgundy-brown stems. When harvested, the fresh rods possess a natural luster, which transitions to a matte, deep copper-brown hue upon drying for structural projects. This variety establishes a robust root system when managed through annual winter coppicing, which maximizes annual biomass and rod production.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success. If you are new to plant propagation, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on How to Propagate...'.
