Governor Wood Cherry (Prunus avium 'Governor Wood') Scionwood

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Governor Wood cherry is an American heirloom variety that we grow for its early ripening qualities. It features a blush exterior and a white interior, similar to Emperor Francis. This variety ripens early in our season, typically around mid-June, at around the same time as Chelan, Early Burlat, or Skeena, and a couple of weeks before Bing. While it is not as sweet as a Bing cherry, it provides a dependable, early-season harvest that we enjoy straight from the tree.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Governor Wood Cherry is an American heirloom sweet cherry variety introduced in 1842. This tree produces golden-yellow fruit with a red blush and a white interior. The flesh is firm and sweet. It is an early ripening variety, maturing in mid-June. The tree is self-fertile and exhibits disease resistance. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 through 8, it grows to a mature height of 12 to 16 feet on semi-dwarf rootstock and requires full sun and well-drained soil.

This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
