Fransgeel Rood Willow (Salix alba vitellina × fragilis (S. sanguinea) 'Fransgeel Rood') Cutting
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Fransgeel Rood is a willow variety we recommend if you are looking for winter color or a functional hedge plant. The foliage features green tops with new growth that emerges in a blend of red and green, providing a distinct look along the fringes when pruned. Once harvested and dried for about six months, the wood retains much of its natural color, turning an orangish-red hue suitable for decorative arrangements and basketry.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Fransgeel Rood is a male Dutch willow selection featuring yellow to orange branches that turn red in winter. The hairless stems have a waxy surface, and the summer foliage consists of deep green, broadly lanceolate leaves up to 12 cm long. This fast-growing variety produces rods that grow 5 to 7 feet annually, making it suitable for winter interest, hedges, and basketry.
Note: This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success. If you are new to plant propagation, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on How to Propagate...'.
