Continental Purple Willow (Salix daphnoides 'Continental Purple') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Continental purple willow features deep red stems and green foliage that dry out to a much darker shade. Similar to Blue Streak, this variety produces a natural white bloom on the plant's surface that can be easily rubbed off with your finger. We recommend pruning the plant back harshly every year to encourage new, first-year growth, which maintains the vibrant stem coloration and special characteristics that fade as the wood ages. Unlike other willow varieties that have 10-30 leaders, or rods, per plant, Continental Purple tends to just have one or two rods.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Salix daphnoides Continental Purple is a deciduous tree or large shrub featuring dark purple to mahogany stems that develop a waxy white bloom when mature or dried. It produces blue-green foliage and cream to yellow catkins in early spring. This variety grows 30 to 60 feet tall, adapts to a range of moist to wet soils, and responds well to regular coppicing, making it suitable for basketry, living structures, hedges, and winter interest.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success. If you are new to plant propagation, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on How to Propagate...'.
