Blackdown Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Blackdown') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Blackdown black currant is a variety we grow that features a high sugar content, making it sweet enough to eat fresh straight from the plant without needing to be processed into jam or baked goods. As an early-season fruit crop, it is a prolific producer. Currant cuttings are easy to propagate which allows anyone to increase their crop harvest by growing more plants, or to create plants to give away or sell.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Blackdown Black Currant is an upright, deciduous shrub reaching a mature height and spread of 3 to 5 feet. It produces clusters of medium to large, jet-black berries that ripen in mid-summer. The fruit features a high sugar content that balances its natural acidity, making it suitable for fresh eating, juices, jams, and baking. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 3 through 8, this self-fertile variety grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil. The plant exhibits resistance to white pine blister rust and powdery mildew.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
