Black September Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Black September') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Black September is a black currant variety that fruits on second-year wood. We find that this variety produces larger berries and it seems to have a higher sugar content by taste, especially when allowed to fully ripen late in the season. The plant shows strong, healthy foliage and a significant amount of new growth each year. It is also very easy to propagate by taking nine-inch winter cuttings with a few nodes and placing them directly into soil, where they reliably root by springtime.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Black September Black Currant is an upright deciduous shrub reaching a mature height of 3 to 5 feet and a spread of 3 to 5 feet. It features inconspicuous spring flowers that develop into large, firm black berries ripening in late July. The green summer foliage is aromatic when crushed. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 3 through 8, this self-fertile variety performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success. If you are new to plant propagation, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on How to Propagate...'.
