Beauty Plum (Prunus salicina 'Beauty') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Beauty plum is the first plum variety to ripen in our orchard each year. This Asian plum features colorful flesh and a sweet flavor that we prefer over other early varieties like Methley. Because it is a clingstone variety, the flesh adheres tightly to the seed, making it less suitable for dehydrating or processing. Instead, we grow these plums primarily for fresh eating and, when we have enough for others, as refreshing summertime treats for the farmers market.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Beauty Japanese Plum is an early-ripening deciduous fruit tree that produces medium to large plums with bright red skin and amber flesh streaked with red. The fruit has a sweet-tart flavor and juicy texture, making it suitable for fresh eating. As a clingstone variety, the flesh adheres tightly to the pit. The tree exhibits an upright spreading habit, reaching a mature height and spread of 12 to 15 feet. It performs best in full sun and well-drained soil, requiring approximately 250 to 400 chill hours. It is hardy in USDA zones 5 through 9. While partially self-fertile, cross-pollination with another Japanese plum variety improves fruit yield.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
