Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Bartlett pear is a variety we grow that matures during the midseason, ripening alongside the Orcas pear and shortly after the Ubileen. The fruit features a distinct texture and color characterized by a light russeting. We harvest the pears while they are firm, allowing them to finish ripening on the counter as the natural ethylene gas completes the process. While you can buy Bartlett pears anywhere, growing it on our own property gives us the security of knowing exactly where the fruit comes from and lets us decide when it is ripe.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Bartlett Pear is an upright, deciduous fruit tree reaching a mature height of 15 to 20 feet with a similar spread. It features clusters of white flowers in spring followed by a heavy crop of large, teardrop-shaped green fruit that matures to golden-yellow in late summer. The fruit has smooth skin and juicy white flesh suitable for eating fresh, canning, and baking. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 through 8, this variety performs best in full sun and adapts to a wide range of well-drained soils.
