Tenah black currant is a variety we grow that produces large berries with a sugar content slightly higher than other cultivars, giving it a sweeter flavor. The bushes produce heavy yields, causing the branches to weigh down, so we manage them with strategic pruning. While it retains the typical tartness of a black currant, its sweetness makes it suitable for fresh eating straight from the bush. We harvest the fruit in clusters by pulling off entire strings of berries. It is well-suited for making jam, mixing into recipes with sugar, or fresh eating.

Tenah Black Currant is a vigorous, upright, bushy deciduous shrub that produces clusters of large, glossy black berries in midsummer. It features aromatic, heart-shaped, lobed mid-green leaves and small yellow-green flowers in mid-spring. The fruit is firm and notable for a higher sugar content and sweetness compared to other black currant varieties, making it suitable for fresh eating, jams, and baking. This variety performs best in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil.
