Steel Drum Black Currant Cutting

Steel Drum Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Steel Drum') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Steel Drum black currant is a large variety that produces berries bigger than typical black currants. We have found it to be a very productive plant in our currant bed. The berries are sweet enough to eat out of hand, featuring a strong currant flavor, but they also work great on cereal, with cream, or baked into crumbles and jams. Like our other currants, this variety is easy to propagate by taking cuttings during winter dormancy.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Steel Drum Black Currant is a productive, deciduous shrub that yields large black berries with high sugar content, making them suitable for fresh eating out of hand, jams, and crumbles. The heavy fruit production often weighs the upright branches down to the ground. This variety is easy to propagate from dormant winter cuttings.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
