Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Obilnaja plum is one of our early season Asian plums that is ready to harvest at the same time as Beauty, Methley, Kuban Comet, and Kuban Delight. This clingstone variety produces soft, flavorful fruit that we harvest the day before the market to ensure freshness. Because it is a clingstone plum, it is not ideal for dehydration or long-term storage, making it best enjoyed fresh from the tree. We grow this variety successfully despite local wildlife pressure, and the fruit remains undamaged by birds due to the presence of other small seasonal fruits.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Obilnaja Plum is a medium-vigour, spreading deciduous tree producing heavy crops of medium-sized, round fruit with dark purple-red skin and firm, yellow-pink flesh. Developed as a cross between Japanese and Myrobalan plums, it features an exceptionally small pit and a sweet, aromatic flavor. The fruit ripens in mid-summer and holds well on the tree. This variety is resistant to bacterial spot and requires another Japanese plum variety for cross-pollination to ensure optimal fruit set.
