Lapins Cherry (Prunus avium 'Lapins') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Lapins cherry is a late-ripening, mahogany-colored variety that we grow for its sweet flavor and dark red interior. As a self-fruitful tree, it self-pollinates and does not require another variety nearby to produce fruit, though cross-pollination can improve the overall crop. A notable benefit of this variety is its ability to hang on the tree for an extended period, allowing the sugars to develop further, provided the fruit is protected from birds and high humidity that can cause cracking.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Lapins Cherry is an upright, deciduous fruit tree reaching a mature height of 15 to 20 feet and a spread of 12 to 15 feet. It features white spring blossoms followed by large, dark mahogany-red sweet cherries with firm, juicy flesh. The fruit resists rain cracking and remains on the tree for an extended period, increasing its sugar content. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 through 9, this self-fruitful variety performs best in full sun and well-drained soil, though cross-pollination can increase crop yields.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
