Jonagold Apple (Malus domestica 'Jonagold') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Jonagold is a large apple variety that features deep red skin with attractive striping where exposed to the sun. A cross between Jonathan and Golden Delicious developed in 1943, its flavor profile blends a mellow sweetness with a hint of tartness. While we found it loses some of its intensity when dehydrated, it remains a fantastic option for fresh eating right off the tree.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Jonagold Apple (Malus domestica 'Jonagold') is a popular American cultivar developed from a cross between Jonathan and Golden Delicious. Introduced in 1968, it produces large, round apples with yellow-green skin covered in an orange-red blush and striping. The fine-grained, cream-colored flesh is crisp, juicy, and offers a balanced sweet-tart flavor.
As a triploid variety, Jonagold requires two distinct pollinating apple varieties nearby to set fruit. The tree typically matures to 12–15 feet on semi-dwarf rootstocks and thrives in full sun and well-drained soil across USDA Zones 4–8. Fruit ripens in mid-to-late autumn and is ideal for fresh consumption.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
