Winter Green Willow (Salix miyabeana 'Winter Green') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Wintergreen Willow is a miyabe willow similar to varieties like SX64 or S365. It features long, slender leaves with a slight difference in color on each side, creating a shimmering effect when blowing in a summer breeze. The foliage and leaf pattern offer a distinct texture, somewhat reminiscent of bamboo. To maintain this specific wood and leaf pattern, we coppice our plants back to the ground every year, which helps us easily harvest the rods. Left unmanaged, it will grow into a large tree, with the colored wood and unique foliage appearing only on the tips of the branches. The summer color of the wood is a bright, attractive green. It grows tall and straight with minimal side branching.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

The Winter Green Willow (Salix miyabeana 'Winter Green') is a fast-growing deciduous shrub willow variety. It features long, slender leaves with a silver-shimmering underside and bright green stems that turn scarlet red in winter. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 4 through 8, it performs well in full sun to part shade and adapts to moist or wet soil conditions. This variety is typically used for living structures, privacy hedges, windbreaks, basketry, and ecological restoration. To maintain its colored wood and foliage pattern, annual coppicing is recommended.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
