Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
White Imperial currant is a white currant variety that produces translucent fruit where the seeds are visible inside. This relatively early season fruit is very tart when eaten fresh, but the flavor works well when sweetened or cooked for canning and baking. We find that this variety is very productive and visually appealing in the summer. It also propagates easily from winter cuttings, making it simple to grow new plants to share or expand your garden.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
White Imperial Currant is an upright deciduous shrub reaching a mature height of 5 to 6 feet and a spread of 4 to 5 feet. It features clusters of pale yellow flowers in spring, followed by translucent white berries with a pink blush that ripen in mid-summer. The fruit has a sweet flavor suitable for fresh consumption, jellies, and baking. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 3 through 8, this self-fertile variety performs best in full sun to partial shade and grows well in rich, well-drained soil.
