Tricolor Willow (Salix cinerea Variega 'Tricolor') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Tricolor willow is a dappled willow variety that features green foliage variegated with white and shades of pink. It has a slower growth rate compared to other willows due to its lack of chlorophyll, which is what gives the leaves their distinct coloring. We recommend planting this variety six inches apart with two-foot spacing between rows to establish a dense hedge. To maintain its form and fullness, we coppice the plants annually by cutting them back close to the ground, allowing the branches to regrow.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Tricolor Willow is a fast-growing deciduous shrub reaching a mature height and spread of 4 to 8 feet. It features arching branches with narrow foliage that emerges soft pink in spring before maturing to a variegated mix of creamy white and green. In fall, the leaves turn yellow, exposing coral-red stems that provide winter interest. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 4 through 7, this variety performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist to wet soils.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
