Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Golden corkscrew willow features stems with a distinct twist. We planted more cuttings this past winter that have already reached about 2 feet tall by June and will reach 5-6 feet by the end of the growing season. Coppicing back to the ground every year, they can grow up to 8 feet in one summer. We also maintain a mature plot planted two and a half years ago, which we cut back every winter to harvest the decorative curly willow stems. This variety can be grown as a spring and summer hedge, then aggressively pruned each winter to harvest the first-year wood for decorations or gifts. It's one of the oldest willows on our farm and one of our favorites. If you like the corkscrew curl but want a different color, try Caradoc Curly Willow. It's a very pretty yellow when dry.

Salix matsudana Golden Curls (Golden Corkscrew Willow) is a deciduous tree featuring spiraling branches and golden-yellow bark. It produces twisted, lanceolate green leaves that turn yellow in autumn before dropping to reveal its architectural winter form. This fast-growing cultivar thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to moist or wet soils. Mature height ranges from 20 to 30 feet with a spread of 10 to 15 feet. Suitable for use as a specimen plant, hedge, or source for decorative cut branches.
