S365 Showtime Willow (S. caprea × S. cinerea 'Showtime') Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

S365 Showtime is a willow variety that we value primarily for its dense production of winter catkins, making it well-suited for floral arrangements. In the summer, it features textured leaves with rough edges and grows vigorously to produce significant biomass. The rods are green at the base and transition to brown further up the stem. While it is not typically used for basket weaving, the rods are a beautiful dark color and grow straight and true so it would be great for coarse projects or structures. It develops into a robust plant after its second year once the roots are established. We plant the cuttings in the winter and slice the ground fabric during the growing season to ensure the plants have adequate space to expand.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Salix caprea x Salix cinerea 'Showtime' is a fast-growing, multi-stemmed deciduous hybrid shrub reaching 10 to 15 feet in height with a 3 to 5 foot spread. Developed at the University of Toronto for biomass production, this male clone features dark green, oblong leaves up to 3 inches long with prominent veins. It produces a dense abundance of grey catkins that mature to yellow from April to May. The bark turns from brown to smooth green with maturity. This variety prefers full sun and moist to wet soil, making it suitable for flower arrangements, privacy hedges, riparian buffers, and streambank stabilization. Hardy to USDA Zone 3a.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
