Rainier Cherry (Prunus avium 'Rainier') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Rainier cherries are a variety we grow for their distinctive pale yellow flesh and light blush. They develop a sweeter profile and a lower acidity level than many dark sweet varieties, ripening to a soft, juicy texture when left on the tree. Because their thin skin draws in atmospheric moisture, they are susceptible to cracking in high humidity, so we monitor the harvest timing carefully. It is a very sweet cherry but because of the blush nature of the exterior, it can be more challenging to identify ripeness simply from a view from the outside. Deep maroon cherries are easier to know when they are getting ripe.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Rainier Cherry is a deciduous fruit tree reaching a mature height of 15 to 25 feet and a spread of 12 to 15 feet. It produces clusters of white flowers in spring followed by large yellow cherries with a red blush and clear yellow flesh. The fruit matures mid-season and has a high sugar content. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 through 9, this variety requires full sun, well-drained loamy soil, and a compatible sweet cherry pollinizer.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
