Pacific, Shining, Red, Whiplash Willow (Salix lucida ssp lasiandra) Cutting

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Pacific Willow is a Pacific Northwest native that grows well in Washington State. We offer willow cuttings that can be planted directly into the ground or started in a pot. In zones seven and eight, these cuttings can be stuck in the ground at any time of year, even in the deep winter, and they will take root and grow. Pacific Willow can reach heights of six to seven feet within a year and a half. The rods are straight with minimal branching, making it a potential option for basketry, and the wood has a nice color after drying for six months. We typically prepare these as eight-inch cuttings, which can also be cut in half and grown in a simple four-inch pot with soil.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Pacific Willow (Salix lucida ssp lasiandra) is a fast-growing deciduous tree native to the Pacific Northwest, thriving in moist to wet soils and full sun. It features lance-shaped green leaves and straight rods suitable for large basketry and structure work. Reaches a mature height of 20 to 30 feet. Ideal for riparian restoration, soil stabilization, and windbreaks. Hardiness zones 4-9.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success. If you are new to plant propagation, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on How to Propagate...'.
