Minaj Smyriou Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Minaj Smyriou') Cutting
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Minaj Smyriou is an early-ripening black currant variety that we grow. This plant is prolific for its size, producing a significant amount of medium-sized fruit despite its compact form. It is one of the earliest currants to ripen in our fields, and its flavor is relatively mild, making it suitable for fresh eating as well as for use in jams, pies, or crumbles.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Minaj Smyriou Black Currant is an upright deciduous shrub reaching a mature height of 3 to 5 feet. This self-fertile Bulgarian variety produces medium to large black berries with thin skin and a mild flavor early in the season. The fruit is used for fresh eating, juices, jams, and baking. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 3 through 8, this cultivar is resistant to powdery mildew and white pine blister rust, thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil.
This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
