Kristin Cherry (Prunus avium 'Kristin') Scionwood

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Kristin Sweet Cherry is a variety we grow that ripens about a week before Bing cherries, following varieties like Chelan and Early Burlat. It offers a useful ripening window between early-season and main-season cherries. We grow our tree on Gisela 5 semi-dwarfing rootstock, though we are transitioning our other cherry trees to seedling mazzard rootstock for more vigorous growth in our soil. While Kristin cherries show good resistance to rainwater cracking, some splitting can occur during humid periods when the high sugar content juice inside the cherry absorbs external water through the skin. The fruit is firm and sweet when fully ripe, changing from a lighter color to a darker hue as it matures on the tree.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Kristin Sweet Cherry is an upright, spreading deciduous tree reaching a mature height of 12 to 15 feet. It features clusters of white flowers in mid-spring before dark green foliage emerges, which turns shades of yellow, orange, and red in the autumn. It produces large, firm, purplish-black fruit that ripens in midsummer. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 4 through 8, this variety can withstand temperatures down to -25 degrees Fahrenheit, performs best in full sun, and requires cross-pollination with another sweet cherry cultivar in well-drained soil.

This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
