Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Flame willow features a distinct color gradient, with a yellowish green base that transitions into a deeper red toward the top, much like a flame. We find the combination of its green foliage against the red stems quite attractive. To plant these, we take cuttings during the winter and insert them through a cut in the weed barrier directly into the ground, where they readily take root and grow. If you have ever propagated other plants by rooting them, willows will make you feel like a Pro! They have a very high propagation rate.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Flame Willow (Salix 'Flame') is a deciduous shrub or small tree growing to 15-20 feet tall with a spread of 10-15 feet. It features dark green, lance-shaped summer foliage that turns golden yellow in autumn. The upright branches curl upward and inward, forming a dense, oval crown. In winter, the bark on young stems turns orange-red, providing landscape interest. This hardy selection grows in full sun to partial shade and adapts to a range of soil conditions, including moist, wet, or poorly drained soils.
This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions.
