Chojuro Asian Pear (Pyrus pyrifolia 'Chojuro') Scionwood

Grower's Notes (Our Experience):

Chojuro Asian Pear is an early-season Asian pear variety that produces sweet fruit that can hang on the tree for a long time. The fruit matures from a brownish-yellow color and can be used early for a crisp salad pear or left on the tree to increase in sweetness. We find this variety to be highly vigorous, prolific, and disease-resistant, even producing fruit in its first year after planting. Additionally, it grows well in poor, clay-heavy soils.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Chojuro Asian Pear Tree is a productive russet variety originating from Japan. It produces medium to large, round fruit with orange-brown skin and crisp, juicy white flesh featuring a distinctive butterscotch flavor. The fruit ripens in late August to early September and can be stored for up to five months under refrigeration. The tree is vigorous, adapts to heavy clay soils, and typically begins bearing fruit within one to two years after planting. It grows to a mature height of 10 to 12 feet, is hardy in USDA zones 5 through 8, and requires cross-pollination with another pear variety such as Shinseiki or Hosui for fruit set.

This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
