Bing Cherry (Prunus avium 'Bing') Scionwood
Grower's Notes (Our Experience):
Bing cherry is a widely produced variety that we grow on on both semi-dwarf and seedling Mazzard rootstock. It features firm flesh and a deep red interior. Because it is not self-pollinating, we plant it near compatible cross-pollinators, such as Stella, to ensure fruit production. The cherries ripen progressively through early July, and we protect the fruit from birds using netting supported by T-posts, pvc structures, or high tunnel hoops until harvest.
Botanical Specs & Profile:
Bing Cherry is a popular sweet cherry variety that produces large, heart-shaped fruit with a deep red to mahogany skin and dark red flesh. The cherries are firm, juicy, and sweet, ripening mid-season. On semi-dwarf rootstock the tree has an upright growth habit, reaching a mature height of 15 to 30 feet with a similar spread. It requires a compatible cross-pollinator to produce fruit. Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 through 8, it performs best in full sun and well-drained soil.
This product is a dormant cutting that will generally be used for grafting onto an existing tree of the same type or onto compatible rootstock. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee grafting success. If you are new to grafting, follow the link on each product page for 'Videos on Grafting...'.
