In the summer, it features green foliage against deep brown stems. When dried for basketry, the wood transitions to a lighter brown. We have found this variety to be a vigorous grower with minimal side branching. It propagates reliably from cuttings, whether planted directly in the ground during the winter or started in pots with moist soil and adequate light. We find it to be nearly identical to Black Maul.

Botanical Specs & Profile:

Salix triandra Noire de Villaines is a French basketry willow producing tall, straight, unbranched rods. The stems are dark reddish-brown to chocolate brown, turning to a warm brown color when dried. This variety features dark green, glossy leaves and slender yellow catkins. It roots easily from cuttings and is suitable for basketry, weaving, and living garden structures.

This product is a dormant cutting that will take root, leaf out, and grow if planted under the right conditions. Since plant propagation success rates can vary depending on climate, location, and timing there is no universal recipe for success.
